There isn't a smell of petrol when you get out of the car is there ?
Check the fuel filter, it's about the size of a coke can and is on the petrol tank - you can see it it you kneel down and look under the car.
These are made out of aluminium and do corrode - thus letting fuel out - especially ...

can anyone help me out with a brakes issue.
My 16v has started showing the ABS warning light - I had this checked and it was code 01276 which I've found out to be the ABS ECU is fecked. VW want £1300 +vat just for the part (well the hydraulic pump and the ecu are 1 unit to them).

Does the ECU need to be reset as well?
nope it shouldn't need to be. Because your not replacing it with a new one. If you haven't got an engine warning light on then just cleaning it out shouldn't effect the ecu, and it will stop it sticking.

Hiya - I had the same issue with my ignition switch giving up the ghost..
to be honest I looked at the Haynes book of lies as well... seeing as the bolts are shear bolts I decided to let my local mechanic deal with it.. it it went wrong you would end up with an expensive bill to sort so 1 or 2hrs ...

Ok I know there's a fault with windows going down - and you need a repair kit from VW.
However, my drivers window drops fine but struggles to go back up - any ideas ?? It's getting very frustrating in this cold weather !!!
