can anyone help me out with a brakes issue.

My 16v has started showing the ABS warning light - I had this checked and it was code 01276 which I've found out to be the ABS ECU is fecked. VW want £1300 +vat just for the part (well the hydraulic pump and the ecu are 1 unit to them).

hi - i had a similar problem where it would catch but not keep going unless you floored the accelerator pedal...

Ended up being the ignition switch ! - they're prone to failure.. cost about £12 but needs a competent mechanic to fit it !

which is what will happen if you disconnect the battery for 20 mins folks... So use this as the first action.

nope it shouldn't need to be. Because your not replacing it with a new one. If you haven't got an engine warning light on then just cleaning it out shouldn't effect the ecu, and it will stop it sticking.

Hiya - I had the same issue with my ignition switch giving up the ghost..

to be honest I looked at the Haynes book of lies as well... seeing as the bolts are shear bolts I decided to let my local mechanic deal with it.. it it went wrong you would end up with an expensive bill to sort so 1 or 2hrs ...

a mate of mine can reset the digital mileometers.. he will not clock it to show less mileage though.

I can usually get between 350-400 miles on a tank in my 16v - a mix of usual motorway driving and a bit of town... Worst I had was when the fuel filter cas corroded through. Managed bout 150 miles on a tank ! :roll:
