Reset

You can reset it. The details are in the VW car manual. I think you have to hold the milometer button in for 30 seconds and then switch off the car or something like that....

Discs

These should last at least 60,000 miles or more depending on your braking. But, if you've had non standard pads, then they will wear quicker. The outer lip on a disc is a good indicator of wear, but you can file this off - garages don't like doing this, so they fit new ones so that they can fit the ...

Bent

If you've pot holed the front, then you may find the track arm is bent anyway. This happened on a previous car of mine -but if they laser track it up (like at a VW Dealer), this should not make any difference. Another thing is the front wheel drive shaft may be bent on the front. But, this will usua...

Washing Up liquid

Yep, this works for me. It's a detergent to will get rid of blockages and smells. Mind, it makes for a frothy jet spray, but it only lasts for a while until you spray this all out the bottle.

Sounds like

They might have over-filled it. This can cause the symptoms you're talking about. Stand car on the level, and leave till car is cold, maybe overnight. Take out the refill plug (not drain plug). Let the excess oil drain out. If this doesn't work, then best to go to a VW Dealer and ask them what Oil t...

Cam Belt Tensioner failures

We've all seen there appears to be problems with Cam Belt Tensioners :!: Some VW Polo GTi owners have reported this causes symptoms such as poor revving, not allowing the car above certain revs, limiting engine revs and also the possibility of engine damage due to the timing be put out adversely due...

Hmmm

Made me think about this more with all the jolly suggestions made  Now, if we need to lube the belt, it has to be something that won't catch fire in the heat and reduces squeeks, but enhances grip. Thought about Vasaline (who knows why :P ), but this is too liquid in high temperatures. Molybde...

If

If it is HT leads, then you should be able to see the arching if you take the air filter box cover off and watch the engine tick over in the dark - I mean in the garage - pitch black if possible. And, if the engine is damp, it will do this even more. Senders tend to go wrong if sprayed with WD-40 or...

no difference

Well, i gave my belt a good spray on the inside, and started her up today - no difference - still squeeks like a mouse in a tight thong. So, what to do now... Maybe need to look at this more in depth. I believe the belts are faulty. Reason: My Volvo had to have a new belt as there was a faulty batch...

OK

Thanks

The VW dealer service said the belt was in good order, not cracked etc so did not recommend replacing it.

The belt does look dry. I'll try the WD40 trick first and get my belt lubed up. :P

Spray the belt?

My fan belt (not sure what else to call it) is squeeking on cold start. This is inch wide belt on the left side as you look at the engine from the front of the car. Well, a VW engineer checked it out and said he couldn't hear anything from cold start - hmmm, maybe the technician was deaf then? :shoc...

Really?

You mean to change a headlight bulb you have to remove the front bumber??? What? Surely this contravenes safety? How can you change a blown bulb on the road side if the police say you can't continue to drive it, when you have to take the front bumper off? There must be an easy plug in bulb operation...
