Thanks mate. Although its a life threatening job for the car I just wanted to make sure it would hold out till then. The car is being resprayed as we speak so the thought of forking out 300quid is a bit tough at the mo (aka "project front bumper tidy-up") Guess the springs may have to wait...

Think I'd best do it this year then. Car was registered 28 April 2006. You guys reckon it will be ok till October as I have to save up for the big £300?

Yes I had a letter through the post 2 months after I bought the car in feb this year. Charged 50quid but thought it was worth it (mines the same age as yours).

Cool. Thanks guys. Going to save up the £300 over the next 3 month and book it in. Is bang on £299 here at Sinclair VW, which has a 2yr warranty.

Mines a 2006 with 14k so 4yrs is this year. That's crazy as I hardly do any mileage in it.

Been to Sinclair body Repair Centre in Bridgend today, where I had my rear bumper resprayed (they did a top job to be fair). They quoted 150 quid for doing each end so it gives me time to either do the black in the middle myself or leave it as it is undamaged unlike the scuffs on each of the sides. ...

So for topping up either of these is ok then? Ok to use my 0w 30 edge that I had for my type r?

Problem being then is what oil did they put in for the service ( I guess I could always pop to the dealer and ask what oil they put in) so I don't mix it up?
