Re: What's everyones MPG these days?

I average about 30 but never get long motorway runs. Always in the country lanes or town roads.

Re: Endi_GTI's 20V 1.8T Project: Start things moving

Right time to update this. I have been home 2 weeks now and have got on with the build a little bit. So far I have stripped out the old AUQ to find more bodged treasures that need fixing and stripped the 4 pots down waiting on the correct bits. I will let the pictures do most of the talking: http://...

I am currently in the middle of the North Sea at the moment but when im home i'll probably try and pester you for the billet part number as the ones on it are for an escort Cosworth i think. Plan is when I get home to test the bodged shafts to see if they are a good length, strip out the...

Re: Endi_GTI's 20V 1.8T Project: Here it is

Those are some big b1tch calipers what wheels are you going to be running on this? Cheers Ben, Hoping to run the 16 inch BBS RC's refurbed in anthracite. Probably with 205 40 Toyo R888's. But if running day to day I hope the red ronals will fit. Will save the R888's for summer fun and maybe the odd...

Re: So what goes wrong with the 'box?

When I rebuilt my box I found that the (plastic) 5th gear needle roller bearing had given up and cast all its needles throughout the box. Luckily I diagnosed it quickly and barley drove it so I opened the box and re newed every single bearing with Timkin metal ones. The only other thing was a new se...

Re: Daz16v's polo gti

looking good mate. Nice job on the cold air feed. Do you find it quieter though with the metal rather than the tube. I tried it and it completely took the sound away from it :(

Re: Failed Gearbox, what to do with the car?

£1500! The price of GTI' has hit rock bottom i'm afraid. I would say with the problem + considering you would have to get it somewhere, you would be struggling to get £1000. Of course depending if the mileage is really low??? Such a shame as these are great cars. I am sure they will increase one day...

If I remember rightly for a cam belt, tensioners and a water pump it was nearing £190 genuine TPS bits but that was a year and a bit ago.

Re: Failed Gearbox, what to do with the car?

If you are reasonably mechanically minded im sure you can swap the box over. Although if you can also be bothered these cars are worth quite a bit in parts. It is a shame to break them as there are so few but it is an option. I would try and source a cheap second hand box and then sell it as a whole...
