Mine had same problem good thing about mine was it was under warranty!

The box has to be taken out and stripped down mine needed other parts such as full gears replaced and some bearings inside .

Then took them 6 attempts to seal the box fully! It's not a 5 min job and Vw charge nearly ...

Dental floss behind the badge works a treat. Then some glue and tar remover the stuff left over

Is it the same fittment for the 9n3 gti as the mm 5 golf front badge?

I haven't it's had all the work Done on warranty only had it since July they have ha more than me but it's fine now. I wasn't the one to realise it had the problem it was a technician who had heard of the fault so tried
To make it do it too said he was just checking it for me , sure enough it had ...

Aye servicing is the key, but it wouldn't stop the gearbox synchro problem or radiator leaking it's wear and tear

Saying that vdub should make them stronger!

Well i will list couple of things I have had and see if anyone can add to them:

Gearbox synchro on 1st to 2nd - get a horrible crunch usually when u give it beans and you do a real fast gear change.

Gearbox mountings - they are weak so check for knocking - rock it on the clutch You will hear it if ...

Surely if they did this then there would be a lot more people complaining about this?

There's something wrong somewhere pal but the thing being Vw are useless at fault finding so they probably just look at the code and clear it then it will just pop back up

Nah mate, never bothered tellin mine :S I know my dad has the 2L GT TDI golf MK5, he's 45, has about 16 years no claims.
