would a hacksaw on it do the job - just to chop it to loosen it off?

I have removed the wiper arm from my mrs' 9n polo. have bought another one from vw but when i took the old one off, it left a metal "ring" just below the thread. this must have came off and is shown as the silver ring in the new one below.

how the hell do i get the old bit off without breaking the ...

cheers folks. the codes have been cleared and re-read and what you see above is the current faults.

it's in the garage now and have asked them to have a look at the electrical faults (the weather is horrendous up here so no point having a look myself when it's going into a garage for a service ...

I bought a 9N 1.4 tdi for my mrs yesterday and have found a few issue's with it.

1 - the main beam and the indicator on the front left hand cluster don't work although the side light does. I've replaced both bulbs and it's still the same. the main beam was working when we picked it up ...
