I have returned to the VW badge...

...though it isn't a Polo. Just thought I'd share a couple of pics of my new car I picked up this week. I'd had enough of throwing money at my S3 only to have it constantly break, so decided to come back to the Volkswagen stable. With the mileage I'm doing I decided to go diesel, and settled on the ...

Re: Servicing my GTI

I'd have to agree. My experience with VW servicing in the past has been 'average' at best, and certainly not worth the prices they charge. Given the age/value of most GTi's now, I don't think I could justify spending the premium asked just for a VW dealer stamp in the book. I certainly won't be taki...

Re: Electric Shock?!

I used to get a static shock off my old GTi pretty much everytime I got out of it.

Haven't encountered it at all with the S3 though.

Re: When is the new Polo GTI out?

No, but a Polo R with 200bhp+, through the virtue of being lighter, would ultimately outperform a regular Golf GTi. That was what I was getting at. If you look at SEAT for example, the new Ibiza Cupra is not quicker than the bigger Leon FR. So it would seem that VAG doesn't want a smaller car outper...

Re: When is the new Polo GTI out?

I would be very surprised if a Polo R appeared. A Polo GTi Cup Edition again yes, but not an R. I'm pretty sure VW have stated that they won't build an R model on anything smaller than a Golf. I can see the logic in this; VW wouldn't want a Polo with better peformance than a Golf, as this would esse...

Re: Anyone been to uni and had a non en-suite room in halls?

What it comes down to is how many other people you'll be sharing bathrooms/toilets with. Back in the day, 2003-04, I was in Castle Leazes at Newcastle Uni for my first year. For some outdated reason, the floors of the halls were split so that all one floor was male, the next all female etc. The resu...

Re: loose split rims

Ah!

Is it the centre or the rim that has a split in it?

Re: loose split rims

Do you know if they have been refurbished at some point? I've personally never heard of the centre coming away from the rim like that.

They should be torqued up to 30NM (22 lb ft). I'd also suggest using Loctite on the bolts as well.

Re: Replacement steering wheel

Having owned a GTi and now currently the S3, I don't find anything particulary special about the S3/TT/S-Line steering wheel compared to the GTi one.

Might sound obvious, but have you checked it isn't related to you installing your soundsystem? Like a faulty earth or some other wiring problem?

Re: Climate control problem

Has it been serviced at all recently? Just once when my old GTi was serviced something was unplugged from the air con at the front of the engine bay, resulting in it only blowing hot.

Otherwise it might just need regassing.

Re: Foppiness... is it to be expected?

The other alternative is an S3.... 1.8T but thats a lot heavier than the polo... and if you think the polo is expensive to repair if it goes wrong... the S3 is in its own class.... To be honest if you find the GTi a bit vaugue and uninvolving, an S3 won't be any better believe me! It's a good car, ...
