Re: lights/steering problem

My lights dim also, as did my previous 6R, if you have your window open you can hear the electric motor whirling away when at very low speeds.

Re: Front wiper arms damaging bonnet.

it does say in the manual how to put the wipers into the service position. They probably under the bonnet slightly to reduce the aerodynamic drag. The manual even specifies the VW part number for the windscreen wash you should use.

Re: Driving in the snow

I have had 8-10 inches of snow over the weekend, mostly on ungritted roads. The car worked great the ESP kicked in a few times while accelerating/ braking but it was nothing serious. What tyres do you have fitted?

Re: Disc brakes

My old 10 plate 1.4 SE Polo had rear brake discs. My current 1.2 TDI (only 3 months old) has the drums. To be honest having both drums and discs on the back I haven't noticed any difference in braking ability

Re: Polo R-Line - Possible new gearstick knob!

the new stick is standard on all cars above the S trim, got it on my new 1.2 TDI. I find it more comfortable to use than the old stick.

Re: 6R mpg talk & cluster speed accuracy

Driving a 1.4 SE I manged about 58-65mpg with a 33 mile commute to work 2/3rds Motorway. Town I can get anywhere between 40 and 50 MPG.I usually avergae on a tank about 55Mpg (according to the computer) which cant be too far from the real consumption as I clock up about 400-430 miles when my range f...

Rattling Noises

Hi all Im having several rattling noises from under my bonnet. The car is 10 reg 1.4 SE with 35k on the clock. The first is when I start the engine, I know they arent the quietst on the start but there is a tapt tapt noise that doesnt go till the engine warms up. It seems more pronounced than it usu...

Re: Noisey Air Conditioning

I've had similar issues, tend to just ignore them though as the A/C works fine just the noise is annoying. Yea im getting along with it at the moment and its working. I asked an engineer what the worse that could happen. He said the bearing would eventaully sieze but the noise unbearable by then. I...

Re: Miles to a Full Tank

Offically they are 35.3mpg urban 60.1 extra urban and 47.9 combined. Im not sure why my car is so frugle, to be honest it was a shock to me when I started this new commute 2 months ago I expected a much lower figure.

Re: Miles to a Full Tank

I usually get 490-520 miles out of a tank with a 1.4 SE. 75% of the driving is motorway/ fast A road. My avergae mpg per tank according to the trip comp is about 62-59mpg. Thats driving at a decent 60-65mph as I cant get much faster on that A road (A42) due the rush hour traffic. I use Shell Vpower ...

Re: Annoying rattling noise

My car had a ratling issue, (its a 1.4 SE) espcially after a long drive where the engine was warm. Whn i took it in to the garage on a seperate issue they also did a recall under the code 97u9 and now the car doesnt make the rallting sound anymore, what ever they did fixed it :D

Re: Noisey Air Conditioning

When it went in yesterday I did ask for a replacement but because it wasnt squeeling when the enginner was in the car (typical) they wouldnt replace the compressor. They said it cost about £900 for the dealer to replace it and they couldnt justify replacing it without definate proof as VW would want...
