I would suspect that the GTI would have a similar battery to the Blue GT with both of them having the Start / Stop system. I don't know for sure of course as the darned thing is deep in the boot and a bit inaccessible.

I have just changed my Blue GT for a GTI and have noticed something that puzzles me. Yes it pushes out. Just ease it gently and don't drop the big white screw. The tricky bit is releasing the electrical plug. I can't remember which bit to squeeze to get it out.
