Re: Radio signal loss
It can't have been anything on the cars.
The fault will have been in the transmitter, the storm probably took out the local repeater and you were picking up reception from the next nearest one.

Re: Coolant leak on 6R TDI
You need to try and locate the source of the leak. It should be possible to narrow it down by looking at where the puddle forms under the car. The coolant system could be getting pressurized by a faulty head gasket. It does not follow that you will get water in the oil. A "sniff" test of t...

Re: 10k mile oil service question
If the car has no turbo, it's not so much of an issue. Modern oils are very good, and still do their job even when they have gone black, which in the old days meant time to change it. However it only costs £40 to change the oil/filter, and it is such an easy job on the Polo, that l change it annuall...

Re: 10k mile oil service question
I would change the engine oil at 12 month intervals, regardless of mileage.

Re: Difference between 60bhp and 70bhp model 6r?
I think the new models are both 4v per cylinder one litre units, so the difference is in the software.
Where the old 1.2 litre 60ps was a two valve, and the 70ps was a four valve. So you could not buy the 60ps and upgrade it to 70ps.

Re: GTi hill hold question
It should be possible to turn it off.
Reverse parking on a hill is a nightmare in our Polo. I nearly hit the car downhill twice last time l tried it, and l drive a van all day every day, so would consider myself at least competent.

Re: GTi hill hold question
I still hate "hill hold assist". My friend's 2012 Scirocco has it. I went to move it off his drive, which is on a hill. I put it in reverse and put my foot on the brake. I let off the handbrake, then released the footbrake....and nothing happened. I touched the brake pedal and the damn thi...

Re: 5w-30 or 5w-40?
Either will be fine.
5w/30 is used generally for fuel economy reasons, being thinner it means slightly more MPG. But l doubt you will notice the difference in economy.
Personally l would go with 5w/40 anyway.

Re: Recirculation function
Yes that worked, one click off maximum cold cancels the auto recirculation function.
And only moving it that far does not produce any heat. So all good.

Re: Recirculation function
Thanks.
My Polo being early 2012, I don't have the semi automatic climate control, just an A/C button and standard heater controls.
But l will try turning the temperature dial a little off "blue" and see if that works.

Recirculation function
Every time l turn on the aircon, the flippin' recirculation button turns itself on as well, and l have to turn it off again.
Is this normal? Can l stop it from doing it?

My only thought was,
The 1.2 might be all the car you need, and it's £3,000 cheaper than the GT or TSi.

Re: First Car - New Polo - Thoughts
I was talking about the 1.2 60hp three cylinder engine.
Only because l discounted it myself, until l test drove one, and was amazed at how good it is.
I have not driven the new version with the 1.0 litre engine, ours is a 2012.

Don't discount the standard 1.2 version either, at least until you have driven one.
