Here's an update to close this off...had a new instrument cluster fitted today at the local dealers - part was about £200 + 2 hours VW labour...fortunately all done under my warranty :)

By the way, if anyone else needs a new instrument cluster for their GTi, current lead time on the part is just ...

Rev counter has gone mad...

So, driving to work this morning, glance down at the dash, notice revs (according to the rev counter anyway) are off the scale! Got to work, turned engine off and the needle makes it's way back down to just above 4000 instead of just above 0 where it usually is!

In all other respects, it's working ...

Just thought I'd mention that I had the pedal box replaced on mine on Fri and, having driven it a fair bit over the weekend, all seems well. The main difference from before it went in is that the clutch has a more definite biting point and it is much, much smoother at low speed & when you come off ...

My mums Lupo has exactly the same problem and my Polo has a few mnor scuffs. I think they are primarily caused by a) wearing rings and b) your keys scuffing the handles.

I make a point of not having the keys in my right hand when I'm opening/closing the door and the existing scuffs on mine aren't ...

Can't help you with GTi engines but, for insurance, try elephant.co.uk - my insurance is £500 fully comp with £100 voluntary excess and protected no-claims. You can go for a £250 voluntary excess and no no-claims protection to make things cheaper.

I'm 25, clean license, 8 years no claims ...

Mine went in today, they looked at it, said it needed some parts which weren't in stock (guessing these are the clips mentioned above) and to bring it back when they had them in stock.

Got to give them some credit here for checking this out first before taking things apart - word must have reached ...

Yep, it's out of VW warranty, but came with a 12 month Motorplan warranty which I've just checked and electric windows are specifically covered *phew*. May as well get it done this way rather than try and bodge it myself!

Is the door trim easy to remove though?!

Since I have only recently bought my car, VW still had the original owner on their database so the letter has gone to her. The guy on the recall line said no problem though, just take it to a VW dealer and it will be fine.

Called them up today and the car is booked in for next Tuesday. They ...

Leccy Windows!

Hi all, newbie here - just found this great forum! Picked up my GTi about a month ago and have been well pleased with it since...until yesterday when the drivers side window started playing up.

Basically, the problem is that it goes down fine, but when I try to put it back up, it gets about half ...
