Seen this on my parents "HB" engined classic. The Distributor cap would fill with oil very quickly. I tried dismantling the Distributor (Bosch type) but the oil seal seemed buried deep within. I changed the distributor for another one, and it's been oil free for 10K.

You will need to seperate the track control arm and the steering tie rod, so a balljoint cracker might be useful - i delivered the whole strut, complete with shock/spring. I did remove the brake caliper, disk and the dust sheild.

If you have a facelifted Polo (78-81) with plastic bumpers, the Derby front end goes on as a direct replacement. The Derby and Polo (78-81) front panels are identical.

Does it still rattle with the clutch pedal on the floor? Dodgy release bearing, or maybe input shaft bearings worn.

Square Headlamp models look better with the G40 mod, more space to hide the charger behind the grille/bumper. It seems a shame to hack the grille and chrome strips on a round lamp model to me.
