Thanks guys. You've put my mind at rest here. I think it's just something to get used to. Makes a real change from the old 1.6 engine in my previous polo. I thought I might get the 'you're a crap driver' response as well!!!

I had a Polo door lock break a while back. Turned out to be the 'paddle' which connects the key lock to the actual door mechanism. I managed to fix it myself, the new part costing only £1.50 ish from VW main dealer.
It is a slightly fiddly job, and involves re-setting a spring inside the lock.

Throttle?

I've recently bought a 2001 1.4 16v (75bhp). Should I expect the engine to rev to around 2500-3000 rpm (not in gear) after only the first 1/2 inch or so of movement on the throttle pedal?
Although the free-revving engine is appreciated, smooth throttle control when moving slowly in traffic etc can ...

Have you tried Volks-Apart dismantlers? See under www.volkswagenspares.com. I got a throttle body for my 2001 16v no problem.
