Lights on Polo

Hi Guys!

I'm new to the forums and new to Volkswagens!

I've just bought a 2004 Silver Polo Twist Auto with 4 lights on the front similar to this one http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/NjAwWDgwMA==/ ... l/$_80.JPG

Does anyone know what the bottom bit of the big lights are for?
