Re: Blanked egr valve - MOT success
#piglet14 There was no major effect on idling or cold running, but if anything there was improvement. I believe that the egr valve should be closed under both of those conditions anyway. Fast idle and pulling away was improved and smoother. The difficulty is that the valve can fail stuck fully open ...

Re: Blanked egr valve - MOT success
The advantage of blanking off the egr valve? For me it was not needing to buy an egr costing £150 or more (a fair percentage of the value of the car) just before a MOT which the car could have failed for other reasons like steering wheel free play or a poisoned CAT. Egr valve blanking seems to be st...

Blanked egr valve - MOT success
This is a follow up to my post here I thought others would be interested to know that my 1.0 MPI 6N2 (112K miles) just passed the MOT emissions test by a good margin with the egr valve blanked off. I was also pleased that the CAT had...

Steering wheel free play
Hi Folks I believe that the MOT limit for free play at the steering wheel rim is 13mm. My car will probably fail on this. There is a small amount in the universal joints down to the rack, but almost all of the play is between the steering wheel and the first joint. Is this repairable without removin...

Re: EGR valve X reg 1.0 MPI information please
Thanks for the GSF tip off, but the best discount I could see was 20% ? With this discount, the EGR valve would be £263.85 -£54 cash back for the old one (if my mangled one was acceptatable), -20%, total £179.88. -I bought the car for £520 last December with a new (maybe dodgy?) MOT, and the car als...

Re: EGR valve X reg 1.0 MPI information please
Thanks again for your reply and wisdom. My concern was of course that purring a blanking plate behind the EGR might reduce the flow to or from a head cooling gallery, and I didn't want to risk a meltdown.. The prices I am seeing are around £200 + vat from main dealer, and around £170 for VAG or £115...

Re: EGR valve X reg 1.0 MPI information please
alexperkins Thanks for the reply. A new valve would be easiest, if only I could find one which doesn't cost a good chunk of the value of the whole car! I did have a warning light and error code P404 from the EGR valve, but this is now secondary to the water leak which is so bad that my car is off th...

EGR valve X reg 1.0 MPI information please
Hi folks. Questions. 1. Can the waterways in and out of this EGR valve be blanked off, or are they essential for head cooling? 2. Does anyone here have a non-working/scrap one of these valves which would be better than what I have at the moment? (Part no is 030 131 503F) I have a stuck EGR valve whi...
