Found a video on YouTube for removing the side skirts on a mk6 Golf GTI that might be helpful. The side skirts on the mk6 Golf GTI are the same style as the ones on the 6R Polo GTI so I suspect the fixings (and removal / refitting procedure) will be the same.

Thought about the wrap but not sure how it will look on the grill, another thought was plastic dipping them maybe gloss carbon.

Thanks for the add, just picked up a 2011 GTi with full history and 7300 miles on the clock over in spain, really like the car so far. Am I right in say that the iPhone will only work with the lightning MDI cable?
