Thanks. Are you suggesting that it is not the cam belt, but the alternator belt that might be the problem? I could have a look myself at the alternator belt tension if I knew where to check and how much play etc.

Polo 9N 1.4 16V 75bhp.
I 've had new cam belts and tensioners fitted today, and the engine now makes a very noticable whirring noise when revved and also noticable as a steady whine when running at say 30mph.
Previously it was very quiet. Maybe it's the new belts/tensioners causing this and will ...

Has any specific info been forthcoming from VW as to whether most or all of the various problems/niggles that have appeared in this forum have been sorted on the facelifted Polo models?

Any improvements to engine management on 1.4 75bhp engines as regards lack of "go" from standstill and travelling up hills?
Also might 1.4 FSI engine be available on non-sport models?

Do any of you technical folk know how to remove the fuel filler cap locking solenoid, it seems to fit into some slotted holes on a panel behind the plastic trim. Maybe it needs a special tool. I need to remove it to sort out a rattle/clicking noise which emanates from it.

My 1.4 S has recently developed brake squeal from the rear offside disc on light braking.
Any one else had this and can I do anything about it other than going to my dealer? (The car is still under warranty).

Nelson, do you know if there will be a suspension tweak?
Mine is a 1.4S and the front suspension thumps a lot over transitions in the road surface producing shock induced rattles and creaks in the dashboard.

Thanks. Presumably the engine cover just pulls off upwards after tube on RHS has been removed.

Not readily obvious how to remove the air filter unit to replace filter with K&N direct replacement (1.4 75bhp). Can anyone give me a run thru on this please:?:

Does anyone know how to get the cover off the steering wheel centre? Something rattles under there and I need to sort it.
