Re: Handbrake

Update:

My Polo went to a different VW main dealer who adjusted the handbrake again and cleaned the breaks (drums?) It has made it slightly better, but not as good as it should be – My daughter can now get it to hold on most hills - but often needing both hands to pull it on!!!

VW Customer ...

Re: Handbrake

I had also never heard of carista!
I have just looked at their website and options for a Dec 18 model and can’t see an option for hill start or to alter the length of time. If it is definitely in there I will get one.

Re: Handbrake
Of course this can be changed, like I have, and you can change the angle in which the car is on for it to activate but you shouldn't have to do that.
How can this be changed?
I think I would alter it to 5 or 6 seconds.

Re: Handbrake

As I said – I had not heard of hill assist until reading here (for 20 years I have had automatics plus a Defender – which most certainly don’t have it :D )

Anyway- I have just checked and it does indeed have this feature - However, there is no way at present I would trust parking this car on a ...

Re: Handbrake

I have never heard of hill hold/hill assist until these replies. The car may well have it, but that's not the way an instructor teaches a learner to start a car on a hill.

I have now spoken to VW customer care, who are supposed to be calling me back within the next couple of days (but in the first ...

Re: Handbrake

But the whole point of this thread is the defective handbrake on the Polo's, not about hill assist at all. Hill assist won't fail an MOT, a defective handbrake will, and it's an integral part of the car. We can all adapt to using hill assist, it is exactly that, to assist, a handbrake isn't ...

Re: Handbrake

Update

VW adjusted the handbrake and it is far better, but my daughter still struggles to hold the car using it on a very very steep hill.
VW says it is acceptable and there is no more adjustment possible (and the cables are all ok)

Re: Handbrake

I have just collected a brand new manual 1.0 Polo 65hp.

It has a faulty handbrake.

We live in a hilly area and I can only just get it to hold on a hill by pulling it as high as possible but my 17 year old daughter who is learning can not possibly get it to hold and has just hated her initial ...
