Re: Polo 2005 Dipped Beam not working - Main beam always on

Well.... the replacement switch arrived, and I swapped it out. Sadly that's not the issue and the main beams were still stuck on.

So it looks like the issue will the the column stalk switches. I have ordered up a used one of those for £20 so will fit that next week and see what happens....

Re: Polo 2005 Dipped Beam not working - Main beam always on

Yes, the stalk assembly must also be probe to wear or small bits of metal falling off one contact strip onto another - that caused trouble with the indicators on some cars.

I'm guessing that you know or can look up how to remove the main lighting switch innards from the body , from memory you ...

Re: Polo 2005 Dipped Beam not working - Main beam always on

You might be lucky with replacing the main light switch, initially I doubted that as I thought that the "power supplies" controller would do that changing/switching but it does seem that load currents do pass through that main light switch.

There is a Haynes repair manual for that car, Haynes ...

Re: Polo 2005 Dipped Beam not working - Main beam always on

Just to add..... I checked all the fuses and they are fine. Dipped and main beams go out when I pull the appropriate fuse, however main beams just stay on all the time (apart from when the fuse is pulled).

Reading a bit more, it looks like these cars don't have a headlight relay at all. So I guess ...

Polo 2005 Dipped Beam not working - Main beam always on

Hello all,

My son is coming home from Uni today, so I fired up his 2005 1.2 Polo which has been sitting on the drive for the last three months. Battery was dead, so I jump started it and took it for a spin to get it charged.

While driving it, I noticed that when I turned the lights on, the main ...

Re: Couple more questions - Exhaust and Air Con

Thanks for the tips - will have a look and see tomorrow.,

I wish I had easy access to a proper hydraulic lift rather than a couple of axle stands and a trolley jack.

Couple more questions - Exhaust and Air Con

Sorry, but this will be a bit long and rambling.....

So I successfully got my son's Polo (2005 1.2 9N) through the MOT last month after fixing various bits and pieces.

On the first MOT test, it failed emissions due to a leak in the centre section of the exhaust. I took it to a local garage and ...

Re: 2005 Polo inner wheel arch? (and screws?)

Just to be safe make sure that you buy the correct spec of power steering fluid, it should be green and to whatever spec is needed for VW Group cars and maybe even written on the reservoir tank cap.
My experience of these plastic clips breaking/hardening comes from working on a 2000 VW Passat ...

Re: 2005 Polo inner wheel arch? (and screws?)

It's easy to see the fluid level in the power steering reservoir while you have the bumper off too.

Good point! The steering was working fine, but I just went and had a look and the level is indeed just below the min mark.

Power steering fluid added to list of things to buy!

Thanks for the ...

Re: Windscreen Washer bottle Removal

Of course there is still the issue of the leaking corrugated pipe where it goes into the bonnet - but that's a different issue.

And happily enough, I have just discovered the Skoda washer pipe repair kit and ordered one of those for a fiver. Seems better than having to replace the corrugated ...

Re: 2005 Polo inner wheel arch? (and screws?)

Excellent - thanks for that! I have ordered some from eBay to be on the safe side.

The screws I ordered already come with the metal speed nuts needed for some of the inner wheel arch fixings, but now I can replace the plastic retainers as well while I am in there. I did notice plastic debris on ...

Re: 2005 Polo inner wheel arch? (and screws?)

So, the inner wheel arch panel is now out. Pretty easy. New one ordered.

And I think I found the correct panel screws on eBay for cheap! Torx self tapping panel screws, 15mm diameter head, 16mm shaft, 4.8mm diameter.

All is good!

2005 Polo inner wheel arch? (and screws?)

I posted earlier on removing the windscreen washer bottle and ended up removing the bumper to get to it.

With the bumper off, I can see that the inner wheel arch on the right hand side is cracked and could do with being replaced. It looks like I can pick one of these up for not very much money at ...

Re: Windscreen Washer bottle Removal

Well.....I took the front bumper off after watching a Youtube video. Pretty easy - just a bunch of Torx screws.

So now I can see the bottle, and of course there are two pipes at the bottom of it that are off their spigots as you mentioned above. Whether due to freezing, or just to the car taking a ...

Windscreen Washer bottle Removal

Hi All,

First post, so please be gentle! I don't own a Polo, but my son does. It's an early 2005 1.2L Twist model and I am getting it spruced up for it's MOT while he is away at University. (So far, I have replaced one of the front grille sections and put a new drivers side wing mirror on).

The ...
