Apc (all purpose cleaner) couple of brushes and a microfibre towel .if you have a hosepipe with a shower setting that would help ...

When I got mine in May, the dealer had 2 in stock but the there was plenty in UK to choose from. VW lead times in general are terrible. Wife ordered Mini and got it in 3 weeks...

I used to work in the motor trade over a decade ago (motor vehicle tech) and I experienced many different faults on cars (a French brand in this instance). We had hundreds of “product enhancements” that we could apply to fix all sorts of issues.

Could have been the relay not fully pushed into base. He could have pushed it in while he was checking.
