Re: Gearboxes, gear oil, and levels
It’s a difficult one. The additives is what makes all the difference Knowing myself I'll research for weeks other options and still do what I did last time and just take the hit of VAG part pricing and get the factory stuff again  The only reason the Red Line stuff stuck out to me was that it'...

Re: Gearboxes, gear oil, and levels
Just throwing my hat in the ring as I'm due to change my gearbox oil again as the box is coming off for a clutch and flywheel. What do we think of Red Line MT-LV? Opie Oils has it up for £28.99 per 1USqt. Whereas the cheapest G 052 527 A2 I can find from a reputable source is £44.69 a litre. MT-LV L...

Re: Coding for LED number plate lights?
Definitely possible on the 6C without using resitors or "CAN BUS" devices. Just change the load type of the bulb in adaptations in the BCM (Central Electrics 09). You may also be able to dim them if they're too bright but being OE units they should be plug and play. Best course of action w...

Re: Meyle HD vs Lemforder
GTI owners report the inside edge of the tyre being worn out first. 10mm drop. +1 for the inside edge wearing more. I'm still waiting to see what effect the solid rubber Cupra LCA bushes may have on tyre wear. They're also Lemforder arms, so far so good. Thread regarding LCA options: https://www.uk...

Re: Noisy cam phasers on startup (1.8TSi 6C GTi)
Just updating this topic after having the new spool valves and solenoids fitted for some time now. The cold start rattle from the cam phasers is 99% gone so fairly certain my rattling was caused by the intake side spool valve as the ticking persisted while I waited for the replacement valve to arriv...

Won't know for sure without plugging any diagnostics in but that screams clock spring to me.

Re: Heater blower resistor prt number?
Managed to find some tiny channel locks that fit in the space quite well and got it in. I didn't feel a click but it's straight and even I couldn't get it back out . If that bracket from the airbag that holds the glovebox was able to be removed the job would be so much easier. Fans are back so ...

Re: Heater blower resistor prt number?
In the middle of swapping mine out and wow is it a pain to get the resistor to lock back in. Got it twisted probably 30° but not completely locked in place. Currently waiting for the rain to stop so I can carry on. IMG_8857.jpg I'm half tempted to leave it as it is as I can't get anything on it or g...

Re: Heater blower resistor prt number?
Just had mine die on me ironically as I left the dealership to pick up an oil filter and a drain plug
Seems straightforward enough:

Re: Clutch slipping 6C GTI
Brakes before power, that's smart. What discs are you going to use with the cupra brakes? Regarding power, was reading about the ABT power chip. Supposedly developed with VW and didn't void warranty when installed. Uplift to around 230hp but pretty pricey. Couldn't find any user experiences Either ...

Re: Clutch slipping 6C GTI
Currently at just over 72k miles and the clutch is holding perfectly fine, the bite is higher when compared to 21k miles when I got the car but that was bound to happen. The flywheel however.... The damping on the dual mass is pretty much gone. Get a slight rattling noise at idle and light shaking o...

Sourcing CV joints
I've been trying to get some CV joints for months, mainly SKF as genuine are extortionate for an axle rebuild while they're off the car for the clutch and flywheel that I've been sitting on for ages but they're seemingly made of unobtanium. FAG did make them at some point but now only seemingly make...

Re: Tyre advice
Although I'm on the 6C, tyre sizes, weight, power etc are fairly similar so thought I'd throw my experience in with the tyres I've used so far. It being my only car it sees the commute, long trips, motorway stints and a kicking on a back road. Michelin PS4 was a great tyre until it had only 2mm of t...
