Noisy cam phasers on startup (1.8TSi 6C GTi)

Occasionally I get a tapping noise on startup from the engine which I can only assume is the cam phasers as it’s a very light tap that eventually goes away. However this tapping at startup is becoming more frequent and sometimes won’t go until I bring the revs up for 5-10 seconds to build some more ...

Re: Polo 6C: emergency brake flashing

When I wanted to figure out if I had emergency braking brake light flashing enabled I found a sufficient section of road with a fairly large road sign (preferably white and reflective) and once it was dark drove past it at 60mph (100kmh~) stood on the brakes and looked in my mirror to see the flashi...

Re: Mk5 6R coolant?

Low coolant won't fail an MOT as long as it isn't low enough to put a light on which by that point the tank is nearly empty. Given you've said it's around min you'll be fine for the MOT. VW has now moved to G12 Evo and is around £9 for a litre of premix which will be fine to mix. But as said above d...

Re: Oil and filter change on a 2016 polo gti

There isn't a light in the cupholder(or mines been broken since I got the car ) but there is a red ring around the 12v cigarette lighter port that lights up with the ignition and the lights on.

Re: Oil and filter change on a 2016 polo gti

For the drain plug, I'd personally stick with genuine as no reputable aftermarket brand really makes them and they're only a couple of quid and it's responsible for keeping the oil in your engine. As for a major service, it'd probably just be an oil change with spark plugs, air filter, and cabin fil...

Re: Oil and filter change on a 2016 polo gti

Not a problem

Have a search around the forum as there's already a lot of info on here for almost anything about these cars from everyone else on here.

Any questions or queries about the car feel free to pm me and I'd be happy to help as best I can :).

Re: Oil and filter change on a 2016 polo gti

Welcome :D You have a Polo 6c otherwise known as a mk5 facelift with the 1.8TSi EA888 Gen3 engine. The engine is almost identical to that found in the likes of the mk7 Golf GTi so a lot of the engine-related tutorials and DIYs online for the 2.0TSi in the mk7 golfs can be used for the 1.8 in the pol...

Re: Custom Exhaust & A Few problems...

Are you currently stock or has a custom exhaust been fitted? Which diagnostic tool are you using? Carly, OBDeleven, VCDS, etc Also, do the codes come back after being cleared? With the codes you've provided, P2565 comes back as Turbocharger Boost Control Position Sensor Circuit: Signal too High with...

Re: Rear brake caliper bracket torque

The rear caliper carrier bolts are 30nm +30°, and the caliper to carrier bolts (13mm) are 35nm. You'll need a thin 15mm to counter hold the slider pin when torquing the caliper to carrier bolts as the flat spots on the slider pin aren't very wide. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B09SWMZQS9/ref=p...

Re: Odd radiator fan behaviour (6C GTi 1.8TSi)

Got the primary fan with the fan module contained within replaced today and all seems to be sorted :) Will give it a few days to make sure but so far so good. Fans no longer come on as soon as the ECU has power and come on and off with the aircon. My mechanic had to put the front clip into the servi...

Re: Odd radiator fan behaviour (6C GTi 1.8TSi)

I attempted to remove and replace the main fan over the weekend but was unable to do so as the turbo to intercooler boost pipe has a clip which one of the main engine harnesses is tied to. It protrudes just enough to get caught on the hub of the primary fan making it pretty much impossible to get ou...

Re: Rear Beam Axle Bushes

I did consider using poly bushes but those who fitted them to mk4 golfs reported quite a bit of NVH and I also feared making the back so stiff would start to make the handling worse and or snappy.

The Fabia bushes with black end caps also look like they're factory fitted

Re: Polo GTI coil spring swap

On the topic of ride quality. The ride in my GTi with stock suspension was getting pretty bad so over the past few months I've had all the bushes and other rubbers replaced and or upgraded front and back now it handles great. I found that the front top mounts made the biggest difference in ride qual...

Re: Rear Beam Axle Bushes

Well, I went with the mk1 Fabia VRS bushes in the end as the prices for the Ibiza and Leon Cupra bushes are massively inflated. Mk1 Fabia VRS (6Q0 501 541 E): £24 each mk3 Ibiza Cupra R (6LL 501 541): £64 each mk1 Leon Cupra R (1ML 501 541): £72 each All prices are from my local dealers but prices o...
