Update - I've now got a nice little 3dr 6c with the dsg box. Reliability is a bit of a concern but I have a 3 year gold RAC warranty which I'm hoping is worth its 500 quid premium if the dsg ever goes bang.

Did you buy privately or from a dealer? Buying privately you have much less comeback as it's assumed you've done your due diligence by the time you walk (drive) away with the goods, but if it has been sold to you in illegal condition it might swing it your way. If it's from a dealer I wouldn't fuss ...
