Re: newbie with 1st vw coupe ever owned

I think you'll find it's single point fuel injection although it looks a bit like a carb. I like classic wheels like 13x5.5 BBS RA's 8) If you go too wide the steering gets a bit heavy and handling goes crap! (e.g. Ronals)

The difference between this and the 8v I once had is that at 4000 rpm it's just waking up 8) The exhaust sounds pretty throaty when you overtake despite being stock. On the motorway it's like a motorbike engine, 3850 rpm @ 70mph :o but it doesn't appear to use a drop of oil or coolant.

I've had shed loads of Golfs, Scirocco's and Polos over the years but only two beetles. Aircooled cars get under your skin - don't buy one or you'll become afflicted

Forgot to mention it's a 1.4. Rain has stopped for 5 mins so here are some more snaps :-) The spots on the car are the last ...

Check your ignition parts, especially dizzy cap and rotor arm, then move on to spark plug cables and plugs. I would guess one of these is the culprit.

£900 that's a LOT! I've bought cars for less :-) I would be tempted to put an 8v box on as you have more choice (Ibizas etc) and motorway driving will be less noisy ...or look into getting the one you have reconditioned which will be a lot cheaper than £900. Trouble with getting s/h boxes is you ...

Removing tailgate trim

How do you get into the tailgate, I need to find why my rear wash has packed in. Also how do you remove the interior side trim? Cheers.

Unfortunatley it seems to be a price we pay for driving rhd cars - the gearbox is on the wrong side of the car! The cable has to do a weird S turn to do the job. The clutch mechanism itself is really simple - a cable attached to a pivoting arm which pushes a big bearing race onto the release plate ...

With issue 1 I would replace the clutch cable and make sure it's routed properly in an S shape and attached to the bulkhead.

I'm with 'dragon_green' regarding issues 2 and 3 - if the steering wheel is off centre it's because the tracking is out. Also check your tyre pressures.

For issue 4 check ...

I'd replace the dizzy cap and rotor first and see how it runs. The thermostats and O ring are pretty cheap but the only reason I replaced my stat was because I wasn't sure it was working well. Now my car warms up really quickly with the temp guage never moving off 90C.
