I accessed it from the UK. You have to pay a small fee in Euros (€7?) to access the system for a specified time (1 hour I think), and navigation is not too logical, but I found my way to the pages that I needed. The system is the log for their vehicle issues.
I was directed to it by a VW vehicle ...

Re: Exhaust cam variator. Loose / missing bolts
Hi. Your situation had a far worse ending. The person, whose Polo had the problem, luckily had it diagnosed and had the repairs done, partially at her cost, by a VW dealer, before the engine was damaged beyond repair. VW customer service in Milton Keynes denied any knowledge of a problem at first ...

Re: Exhaust cam variator. Loose bolts. TPI?
The exhaust cam variator is a part of the engine, under the hood / bonnet. Nothing to do with your issue.

Re: Exhaust cam variator. Loose bolts. TPI?
Hi. I’d be interested to hear the outcome of your dealings with VW / Audi. They definitely have an issue but are refusing to acknowledge it. The VW Head office, Milton Keynes, Customer Service dept are staffed by non-technical people, who just toe the party line. I’ve had several email and telephone ...

Re: Exhaust cam variator. Loose / missing bolts
The Polo that I was involved with had 57,000 miles on the clock. It was approx 6 weeks out of the 3 year warranty.
It was the 1 litre, 3 cylinder, 95PS Engine.

If you want to post an email address (create one if you don’t want to publish a regularly used one), I’ll send you the pages from ErWIN. You can see the pictures / info that VW uploaded.

Re: Exhaust cam variator. Loose / missing bolts
This is the registration area for ErWIN. The fee I think is about 7 euros for a time limited access. It takes a short while to work out the navigation, but I managed to find the issue that was logged there.

Re: Exhaust cam variator. Loose / missing bolts
Hi. I’m not sure if the repair is so easy. When the VW main dealer repaired the Polo in my posting, they changed many of the parts and seals. This is obviously a build problem in the South Africa factory, and as I originally wrote, VW have been aware of the issue for a couple of years, (June 2020 ...

Re: Exhaust cam variator. Loose bolts. TPI?
UPDATE from author.
I found the TPI on the VW erWIN system. Issue has been known since June 2020, so not a one-off. Subject vehicle has now been repaired and VW / dealer agreed to 50% of cost, but it still cost the owner a tidy sum. It cost the dealership additional cost, as they discovered that ...
