Banging and other bad noises, fun times.

Recently had my cat and parts of my exhaust replaced to try and get rid of a really annoying sounding vibration, worked for a few days. it rained and now the exhaust sounds terrible when it's a damp day and when i go through a puddle i get a sequence of short banging noises similar in sound as when ...

mine sometimes has a similar problem, causes the rev counter to go mental, happened after a recent gearbox, driveshaft and cat change, not too much hassle as it only rarely does it. 1400 miles with the only problems being a dodgy exhaust and taillight wiring. either goin back to a Mk3 or gettin a ...

The Catalytic converter, what i heard.............

had car in for MOT, passed, exhaust blows like anything though, but still it passed
asked the garage to check the rattling underneath (i suspected the cat guard)
They told me it was the cat itself, and that it has about 4 months left in it, and welding it would be constituted as being illegal
is ...

Rev counter

anyone know anything about rev counters? and why sometimes the dial is slow to respond and inaccurately displays the true RPM?

Unusual side effects

would erratic rev counter behaviour and excess vibration be a side effect of a gearbox replacement, just had a 2nd hand one put in as mine died, yet these problems weren't present beforehand. someone has said it could be the clutch slipping, but it was only done 10k ago, and it was fine before

screwed again, but by how much?

right, here again with another tale of woe from a polo.
Gearbox trouble today, i suspect it's a bearing got loose, read that whirring is the telltale sign in the early stages, i had that, didn't know was a problem at first, then the thing starts making the grinding bangings something crunching sound ...
