In my gti it did the same thing, it would just make the call through the Apple app on CarPlay. Sound quality was never as good as with standard Bluetooth connection. This seems to be a VW thing as not had this issue in other cars.

My 12v socket has a dodgy connection. Probably a loose wire or bent connector that I can fix myself.
Did you have any luck with removing the socket with or without specialised tools?

what happens is, reverse light will receive 12V. if engine starts, battery voltage is 13-14V. BCM will control reverse light voltage from 14 to 12V. This is with a PWM process.
