GT performance stats

just been thinking of replacing the genesis with something a bit quicker, to match the mini's performance or more.

wanted a G40, for obvious reasons, but the insurance was a tad too much at £900, and ive just moved into my own place.

So a GT is on the cards, just wondering what the performance ...

yeh, i still think nearly 48 mpg in a gt is a bit too good to be true

blimey, im lucky to get 275 miles out of my 1043cc mk3 on £30!! thats if im driving enthusiastically between leicester and birmingham, but on country lanes.

410 miles on 33 quid seems a bit steep. thats like 47.5mpg, in a gt? you must have been going very steady.

and you can get 45 quids worth ...

check all your vacuum pipes are attached and have air tight seal.

I just got notified of this from ages ago!!

Yeh my old man helped me tackle the problem, we jacked up the engine as described, worked a treat, not much hassle at all when you know you got to do it.

But looking at it, not knowing, and having done so many cam belts on other cars, you think, ehhhhhhh ...

It could quite easily cut out after a while if the poor lad hadnt realised his belt had snapped.

Doesnt take long for a runing engine to drain the battery if the alternator aint charging it!!!

Water Pump Refit - CRANK PULLEY REMOVAL

Hey

I desperately need help

Just replacing water pump, on my 1043 genesis, and having problems removing crack pulley, the one that drives the alternator,

Removed the four bolts, loosedned the belt, lowered engine mount, and still there is no room against the inner wing to remove it.

Er, the cold air comes from the large vents under the hot vents, there the FRESH AIR VENTS. You need to move the round slider round and you will have plenty of said cold air.

Cracked Head? either way i need a 1.05 head!!

Done the head gasket on me polo on the way from shoppin with the mrs. so i blame her. no compression, running on two cylinders.

got the head off, yep the gasket was blown between one and two.

checked head with straight edge, perfectly flat, and no visibale cracks new gasket, bolted it down.

Thanks for that. The golf the box came out of was a 1997 Preg, and it had a rod change. Im yet to check the engine code.

Ill probably hang on to the box and see how the polo goes after purchase to see if i really need the extra gear on long motorway drives.

On thinking back to driving the golf ...

Thanks for your help, the box is actually still attached to the golf engine, and was going to sell them as a pair if it wasnt feesible.


I dont mind having a silly high 5th, as i do ALOt of motorway driving, but i really really want this coupe,as its top banana.

if it is too high for day to day ...

Golf 5spd Gearbox in polo 1.0L????

Hey im interested in buying a 1994 1.0L coupe, and i believe its a 4 speed gearbox. I currently have a 1997 1.4 Golf gearbox sat in my garage, and was wondering if it fit into the polo. As i need it to be a bit longer legged, as i do a lot of motorway driving.

I would love to buy a higher spec car ...
