Re: mk2 breadvan 1.0l carb problems

Hi mate, Oil in the air filter is not normal and would indicate an oil breather problem. Check the rubber hose that fixes to the underside of the air filter housing is clear. This runs down to a breather that fixes in to the block, these get blocked. I don't know what theyre like to clean/ replace t...

I didn't have to do any adjusting of the cam, the new choke just bolts on and provided you check the operation on the butterfly is correct ie full choke= shut, no choke =open, everythings hunky dory. One word of warning I was originally sent the wrong kit, some were left and some right hand sided - ...

It was a diy job. I had quite a job tracking down a kit but found one in the end. Quite a simple job to do you just replace the auto unit with the bimetallic spring for the manually controlled one. :)

Hot start problem Mk 2.

The family mark two is not too happy hot starting. Sometimes it has to be left to cool down before it will start. I converted to manual choke so no choke probs to contribute. Any ideas?

Clunking noise front end

My Mk2 is clunking when driving round bends :( . It will make the noise if you push down on the front of the car when stationary. Hopefully it can't be too serious as it's just passed it's MOT. Was thinking engine mountings, anti rollbar bushes or Mcpherson struts loose. Is one of these traits commo...

MK 2 Squareback rear window spoiler removal.

Got water in my boot and want to seal the rear window. Whilst I'm at it I want to clean the window on the outside. My question is how do I remove the spoiler surrounding the window please? Thanks in advance, Mark.

Mark 2 Handbrake cable Replacement help please.

Car is an '89 Mark 2 Polo and I am in the process of replacing the o/s/rear cable. New cable is fitted into trailing shoe but the other end has to fit into the compensator which is a rectangular bracket that effectively joins the two wheel cables to the handbrake cable. What is the knack? Spe...

Blower switch mystery

Went to demist the windscreen today and turned the knob to position 3 for maximum effect. Nothing happened so I turned the knob back to off and the blower came on, the positions appear to have reversed! I now have to fiddle about with the switch to get the fan to work. Has anyone taken the switch ou...

Cold Start Problems

Hi, I've an '89 mark two that I converted to manual choke last year. It starts fine but from cold but I cannot drive off straight away because it wil stall - lack of revs on full choke so I have to sit there revving for a few minutes. After a few minutes I can let my foot off the gas pedal and the t...
