Brake upgrades for an early MK2?

I'm taking the advice of the 'other Gareth' and sourcing a pair of VWII calipers, vented discs and the carriers from a MK3 polo.

Can you uprate the rears cheaply? Or the master cylinder?

I'm looking to do as many upgrades to the running gear of the car as possible using all factory parts.

Thanks ...

there should be a sticker in the boot stuck on the rear panel. Medium blue metallic is a much later colour, (mk3) yours looks like its regatta blue, code LB5Y You can probably still get paint direct from vw

LOL - I didn't realise medium blue metallic was an actual colour! I was just trying to ...

yeah, i take it you want 185/55 to maintain the correct rolling radius? You might have problems with tyres that big and major lowerage. 165/60 is a safer bet but what I use would be better still. Ive got no problems with scrubbage, although Im only lowered about 60/50

the ATS cups are et33, so ...

How can I find the colour code for my Polo?

Its a medium metallic blue, on a '82 classic.

I need to get some paint mixed to repair a couple of dents, but its cheaper if i know the code rather than having it colour-matched.

Any ideas?

Cheers :)

i don't think the derby has too many restrictions as far as i know, i've just put 185/60/r13's on my hatchback which has 1 of the most restricted arches in the business, probably best to wait and hope someone like gareth_gt_hatch sees this as he's got ATS cups on his mk2 saloon, so i'm assuming he ...

14x6J Gti steels on a MKII Polo Derby?

I'm planning on fitting a set of Golf GTi steels (the MKII versions) to my '82 polo. Painted satin black with no centre caps 8)

The polo is lowered 70mm at the moment, it may yet go lower!

The only suitable tyre size I can find is 185/55/14 - any idea if i will get problems?

I don't care how bad ...

No idea, sorry. I know it has shocks and springs, and was told it was a 70mm drop. I'm going to take them out and investigate cutting the springs a little, so i'll let you know then :)

Last / current project is a 69 resto cal beetle - starting with a mint, original unwelded bug. That's ongoing :D

I've been after a Golf MK1 GX for a while, but never found anything solid enough at the right price, then I saw the polo and thought it would be better than the golf anyway, because you ...

Hmmm, no rust but a fair few dents - will be getting a decent-ish respray in satin blue (not a rattle can job) and a gloss white chequered roof to match the interior, after I've beaten out the dents and given them a smear of filler.

Any ideas of suppliers for stuff, especially a badgeless grill? AS ...
