alternator help

mk 2 1983 a reg polo, been working fine but now after a massive thunderstorm the alternator isn't holding charge, been to garage to get it checked with one of their electrical gizmos and they say i need a new one, can't find any in the local scrappies, where can i get one? i'm in the south west ...

ok this was a scary one, i'm driving along with no probs, doing about 20mph after pulling away from a junction, then theres a click under my right foot, there's no drive and the engine starts to race :shock: .

on with flashers engine off car going no place.

restart engine, engage gears and away ...

how much should it cost for a de-dent & external respray?
just so i have a rough idea before going to a bodyshop to make sure i don't get ripped off

without trying to 'p you off' you lost me after the first picture, if i gave you any advice at all you'd probably end up setting fire to your car.

hope you find the info you need and in the meantime i'll ask my mates at work.

whilst not being a true *pimp* candidate my polo could still do with a bit of a make-over and general tune up and it would be all the better if someone else would pay for it :)

westwood needs to move aside, surely there must be a better dj or rap star that they could get to present the uk version? harvey or goldie for instance, even maggot from glc :)

wish someone would pimp my ride though i'd like to do up my polo but haven't got the funds :(

Thanks for all the replys but after looking at the car myself from every conceivable angle, i had to call it a day and get proffesnial (deliberate mistake...lol) help.
it's in a workshop around the corner overnight, while it waits to be thoroughly examined by a mechanicy bloke.

sorry i've not had chance to take any pics of it yet, it's burgundy red in colour, needs a good clean and a good valet but apart from a few signs of 23 years worth of wear and tear she seems pretty sound.

now i've got one (a Polo) i'll be sure to visit more often, I'm hoping to keep the car long enough for my eldest lad to learn to drive in (he's 14 now).

I don't think it's the seats/interior as it gets stronger when sat at idle, smells like it's coming through from the engine bay via the air/heater ducts.

Newbie here

Just picked up a 1983 1.0L C 3Door Hatch, (I'm assuming it's a MK2), for £150.00 taxed and tested.
And although I'm well chuffed with it as it came with two new tyres, a new rear box, ht leads and plugs I have a slight snag.
Can anyone tell me what a strong smell of fuel inside the passenger ...
