Yeah, it would be good to know. I've heard the main weakness is due to a plastic bearing or something like that. Places like Ace Gearboxes have a vested interest in getting business from this sort of stuff so somewhere like that won't help you. I'd bet there will be a local guy that does boxes who'd...

sorry, I sounded a bit snippy there. Guess I'm just stressed out with all my own gearbox problems! I've done a lot of searching too on cheaper ways to get a replacement box, and the golf was one of the first things I looked at, but it won't fit. The other option someone suggested was to use the casi...

err, becuase it's a different gearbox. Firstly the casing is different which would cause some fitment problems. Secondly, if you did somehow get it to fit, the gear ratios are different. The Tdi has a lower gear ratio, making a lower top speed in each gear. The TDi box is also bigger and heavier - t...

Does anyone else have experience dealing with Gloucester Road Gearboxes? I managed to get through to them this morning and a guy said he'd phone me back within half an hour, but haven't heard anything since. I've called them at least ten times, but nobody answers the phone... maybe they are having a...

There's something about a loose connector under the back seat that connects the ABS sensor up or something. I've read it on the forum before somewhere, I think it's common for it to become loose.

Thats a shame what happened. I may actually have a gearbox in the next few weeks Thanks, but kinda Need It now. I can't believe I've had the car for 10 months and it's been running a gearbox that's casing has been held together with haraldite glue. Unbelievable, some people are total cheapskates. I...

it gets worse - I have a warranty (warranty direct) which covers the box. It had a whine for ages and started getting really bad - they said they wouldnt fix it for just being noisy, that it would have to break. So I 'broke' it with some forceful gear-crunching and took it in for repair. They turned...

gearbox

I put my gearbox into a refurbisher on Monday in anticipation of gettting it rebuilt. He just called saying the box is beyond repair, that the casing has been cracked in the past and repaired with glue. (would explain the leaks from it). Anyone any idea where I can get one? Ace gearboxes tell me the...

I think that trying to increase the power of a polo gti will cause you nowt but trouble - the gearbox can't even handle the standard 125bhp. The more you give it, the quicker the gearbox is going to fail

Absolutely shocking on VW for putting this excuse for a gearbox in such a great little car

Mine does it too sometimes, I'm sure I have a faulty sensor. Just be aware that when the ABS light is on, your ABS won't work.
