That's pretty much it. The box is too weak to handle 125bhp, oil and additives won't really help. It's just a crap design.

If your box goes and you get it properly reconditioned - ie. you get any bit replaced, main diff bearings etc - it should last you a fair number of thousand miles.

if the synchro's go then you normally get a crunch when changing gear. However, popping from in-gear to neutral while driving is also a sign the synchro's are worn. Not sure about your clunking noise tho.

There's a simple test for wether a clutch is gubbed or not.

Engine running, car at standstill, clutch pressed down.
Engage 4th gear and release the clutch.

If the engine stalls, the clutch is fine. If the engine doesn't stall, your clutch has slipped.
