This is due to it having hydraulic tappets, they take a while to fully fill up with oil. Its a characteristic, and nothing to be concerned about, especially as they are quieting down when the engine warms up. :)

Dont bother messing about, I reckon all the parts will be under £50.

You can change the bracket with the engine in, you simply need to remove the timing belt upper covers, there are 4 bolts.

Make sure you use new bolts, and torque them up correctly ffs. :)

Yes, that diagram is from ETKA. I can ...

Part 21 bolts to the engine block, I think you simply need to replace this, and the actual engine mount and all the bolts :)

That should help explain things I hope!!![/img]

Well, I cleaned the throttle body and changed the fuel filter today, still got the problem.

HT leads, plugs, rotor arm and dizzy cap to be changed on Monday, will clear the fault codes and align the throttle body on Tuesday.

If that doesn't fix things I'll be ordering a new coil and a new fuel ...

It looks like the mount hasnt pulled away from the block, so I'd just get a new engine mount and engine mount bracket, and of course a set of new bolts. Probably £40 all in from VW. :)

I'll be changing my dizzy cap, rotor arm, HT leads and spark plugs tomorrow, as well as running diagnostics, cleaning the throttle body and aligning the throttle body. If that doesnt work the only things I can thing of would be the fuel filter or fuel pump... :)

Just my tuppence worth, but I've seen painted dashes before, and the end result is not nice. If they get chipped, they look terrible, and the finish is never anything like OEM. I say dont bother!!

I have a 96 6N with a black dash, it looks quite smart. I'm sure a scrapper would only charge a few ...

Heater controls illumination - whats yours like?

Well, my heater control knob (the middle one, hot/cold) lights up nice and bright, but the fan speed looks a bit dim, especially the number 1, and the directional controls the same, dim on the right hand side...

Are they all like this? There is only one bulb, but surely it should light up ...

I've had a look on ETKA, and the part numbers seem to correspond... so if your clawing one out of a scrapper, then its worth a go for sure! :)

Your Polo is what we call the Ibiza, or it certainly looks that way - have you done a thread about your car before...? Just curious!

That sounds positive. Its worthwhile finding a proper alignment centre, not just a Kwik-Fit type affair. Having the geommetry set up correctly will not only totally transform the ride and handling, but also prolong tyre wear! So its all good!

i don't know what the capacity is but if you run the car at idle and squeeze all the coolant pipes with the expansion cap off, this should help get rid of any air locks.

Yeah I did that, also left the heater on max too...

I suspect the other litre or so is in the radiator and the heater matrix ...
