I finished mine the other day. I used Red Hermitite to seal between the Centres and the Rim, and VERY sparingly used Loctite Thread Locker on all the bolts (as in v tiny dab on each bolt, with any excess used on the next bolt). All seems good :D Might post some pics of the finished work in the next ...

I'm in the process of completing refurbing my wheels. I bought the new style domed VW Centre's from my local Dealers - Dane. Cost £6.64 + VAT. Old style ones were something like £5 + VAT, if I remember right. I reckon these look much better. The code for the new part is 1J0 601 171 BXF. The code f...

Yeah if you're looking at a late car you can be talking upto £8-9K. Downsides I reckoned beyond the cost side was size, manual aircon (both of which are hardly a big deal I guess), and fuel range - around 230 Miles (according to EVO) which could be annoying (although I'd like to see figures from an...

I used to drive a Mk5 Golf GTI with DSG, if you're after refinement then they v good, but then you would have to be spending a fair wedge of cash (I also think this counts for Mk4 R32, let alone Mk5 R32's). I sold the Mk5 to save some money, but also because I wanted a change. I wanted something a l...

I've recently changed my Pads and discs at the rear since they must have seized at some point before I got the car, and the discs were quite warped (was in the process of repainting the calipers). I bought ATE Discs and pads, which in total came to about £42 (from Euro Car Parts). In terms of fitti...

Glad you got you fuel flap open. Shame about replacing the Pump. IF it was possible to fix it, you need to check each chip over for damage, then remove those that are faulty using a soldering iron/solder braid (or similar) - this is where it helps to have a mate who's good with a soldering iron (my ...

If its anything like what happened to mine, it'll be the Voltage Regulator which has been damaged. You need to look for the cause though of the water - which is most likely the Rear Wiper's Sprayer - what tends to happen is the tube running to the Sprayer comes off - this is the Tailgate (you'd need...

Pretty sure all the Red GTi's have Black Doorcards - mine is a UK Car and is like this. Think it was because they thought with so much red it'd look wierd.

Dangerous Dave - What I was trying to point out is 40MPG in a GTI regardless of DSG or not is unrealistic. Yes I used Super Unleaded all the time (too be honest the only fuel I'd not use in again in the Golf would be Tesco 99 - it was the only Super Unleaded which caused a reduction in fuel economy ...

Please don't listen to the rubbish about MPG that Dangerous Dave suggested re. Mk5 Golf GTI. I've just sold my Mk5 GTI DSG, although it was perfectly acceptable in terms of MPG more realistic is: - 20-25MPG round town, 25-32MPG short to longish trips including Motorways/A-Roads (lower end if you're ...
