You can grab yourself a cheap vag-com cable of ebay for around £10 - £20 most of them come with a copy of the software aswell.

And if its a new problem it will let you know!

I really want to do something with my car but I am not sure what to do with it! I would really love to lower it and put some decent alloys on it, but i dont know if i want to keep the car or not. Its not quite quick enough for me nor does it really feel that great to drive on long journeys, I am sur...

I got my VAG-COM cable from ebay. its just a USB cable. No you dont need a high spec laptop to run VAG-COM its not very processor intensive but its poorly written and crashes alot

As for the Emissions light - You will need to hook your car up to a laptop for diagnostics. You can go to a VW garrage and get this done for about £40 but its rediculous!

Alot of the guys (including myself) have the gear to do diagnostics.

Where abouts in the UK are you?

get some pics up when you get it! Wikipedia said my MK5 is a MK4 so dont trust what it says.
