Well, no one could really tell exactly what is causing the noise and vibration. So we've narrowed it down to the diff/gearbox.

I've ordered a new one and will be fitting it mid next week once it's in then I'll know if it was that :roll:

had came lose and was rubbing on the top crankshaft pully.... it had snapped the 3 engine bolts and the mount had slipped...

Haven't had any work like that carried out but I had thought about the engine mounts being at fault, although it all looks straight and I asked the garage to look at these ...

it would be worth checking the wheel balancing again, because a weight could have come off - its easily done. Is it around any particular speed or is it totally intermittent?

I had thought the same, I think I’ll get it checked and the geometry on Saturday.

It's at any speed so seems less ...

hmm

couple a things id check 1st and obvious ones too...

wheel nut loose? front or rear?

trashed wheel bearing?

loose d/shaft?

box oil level?

im not sure if these have them but mk2 gti golfs have a balance weight on one of the d/shafts and as the miles went by they had a liking to being ...

Thanks both,

The tracking and camber did need doing, I got my local dealer to do it while they also reset the hight of the lights :lol:
