I have a 98 polo 1.0L after about 150 miles (1week) the water bottle goes from maximum to empty and the water light comes on, on the dash board. The temperature gauge is fine staying at the middle so there must be a leak but I need to know where the most common areas to check for leakage are, as ...

I have the above polo, it has recently been serviced at this point the oil was changed. For about 2 years there has been a slight oil leakage, I have had a mechanic check it and they couldn't find the source of the problem, I know its not the head gasket.
