Thanks for the warm welcome guys, its wide open at the moment, mainly lurking on the 306 gti-6 forum for minters coming up for sale.

Quite like the idea of a Zetec S but not the image associated with it, if a clean polo with good gearbox appears i may pick that up.

I totally agree that starting ...

Lol I should have seen the last two comments coming, in all fairness our 3 306's were much more reliable then the GT TDi we have now and thats just over a year old.

Whatever happens guys I will pop back on regardless of if i have a polo or a pug or something else because common sense caught up

Imo the gti-6 has aged very badly, although they are damn quick for what they are & you can touch near 200bhp with some spending. Insurance will be a nightmare on it though so i think you can safely say no to it (in my opnion if you think you will have problem with the polo gti how do you plan on ...

Can someone point me in the direction of some cheap insurers, or would it be better to phone up?

So far bell have been the best for me but they've stopped online quoting for me today :(

Thanks for all the comments guys, even though im now even more undecided.

Its now going to be a case of when i start really looking which car turns up with the spec i want at the right price, the 306 is cheaper to buy but slightly more expensive to buy.

The weirdest thing of all is i tried looking ...

Totally aware of that, especially as I have to have one with leather, make sure it has the climate control etc

however justifying it is simple as, if i have a car, its easier to get to work, the easier it is to get to work the more i work, the more i work the easier it is to pay for the car this ...

Its all relative to be honest. Those people who have suffered gearbox issues are more likely (and rightly so) to make noise and kick up a fuss about the problems they've faced. So on a forum like this you are going to hear a lot of horror stories, because people aren't going to start a thread and ...

Is it going to drain me of money??

thanks guys,
I suppose it's just a case of finding the right one.

It's either a polo or a 306 gti-6 and after hearing a polo with a group N exhaust on youtube i really really can cope with the standard costs of a polo, but can not cope with the cost of rebuilding gearboxes, getting new clutches etc ...

Is that saying the more the merrier?

Id have thought this would point at a car that had issues with any gearbox given to it.

How much do replacements cost?

would it be better to have it rebuilt by someone who knows VAG gearboxes
