Could someone please tell me what size the brake pipe union is as marked in the picture, I know that the other end is an M10x1.00 union, why oh why are they different!!!

I've got a MKIV Polo and I've been doing some pre-MOT work on it, I need a new nyloc nut (lock nut) to fit on the end of the steering control arm which fastens through the upright, I thought it was an M12 x 1.75 nut but it doesn't seem to want to go on. Has anyone got ...
