Fixed by cutting two blue wires. this appeared to solve the problem

The stereo when turned on turns the dashboard lights on, and all other interior lights (as if sidelights or mainbeam were on) but it does this even if the headlights are off?

they will go as low as you want them buddy, mines sitting about 70 mm lower than standard but they could still go an awful lot lower!
