Secondly the car i'm hoping to get will be a 53 plate 1.2e 55 bhp model, i've searched through a few threads at others asking similar questions at what to look out for with possible visits to the garage, ideally i'll like the 1.4tdi model ...

ok, put it another way is it possible to use 17" alloys with 18" tyres or that just a no goer?

I'm in the process of aquring a Mk6 53 plate hopefully shortly, however can somebody tell me the largest alloys + tyres i can put on without it effecting rubbing the arches, is 18" too big???

Any guidance & feedback is appreciated
