Just to let u know, I just got a GTi grill from my loacal dealer and it didnt come with a GTi badge, so mine isnt badged as a GTi at all. It may be that they only give you these if you have a GTi, or I got ripped off (again). Cost me £28.

Beta and 6x9s?

Hi,

Ive just bought an auto acoustics stealth shelf off ebay, and have some pioneer 6x9s that I had in my old car. Wondering if I can run them off my Beta headunit? Ive also got the slot CD player and would like to keep all of that if possible. I know getting an aftermarket HU will be better, but ...

I managed to get some 2nd hand VW ones off ebay, they turn up every so often. Theyre good because they anchor into the points on the roof on all polos, and then lock so it makes them slightly more difficult to steal. Sit a good distance above the car aswell so if youve got a sunroof you can still ...

Key costs what?

Only got 1 key for my car so called up my (not very) friendly VW dealer to see how much another costs (need 1 for parking while i'm on hol), so here's what they said.

1 Basic Key (no frills) £45
1 Programming that key to the car £44.06

So thats a total of £89.06 for a basic key! Apparently they ...

What colour...

... is my car. It's the non metallic blue. Is it jazz blue or surf blue? I need to get some touch up paint and I don't trust my local incompetent VW dealer..

I get that clunk to! I was worried because that usually means something is quite wrong (although this normally only applies if the car is standing and you move the steering from lock to lock). Perhaps I'll get it checked out but no warranty and don't really want to get ripped off by my VW dealer ...

Some people also call the Mark 5 the Mark 4 (as in 6n) facelift or phase 2. Confusing, no. :?:

I'd say bout £5k too, but being a Cat C does make a difference. Its hard to say how much, some people will run at the thought, some won't mind. I imagine you'll be looking at around £1k less, but that realy is a rough estimate.

Thanks for the advice.

Actually did it on Sunday before seeing your post, so trial and error was used mainly. Found the filter and removing the engine cover would have definately made it easier. Other than that, wasn't too difficult.

Time for an Oil change

Hi,

I want to change the oil in my car as I've decided to do it every 5000 from now on. The car has done 55500 now, so is a bit up on miles, last change at 51000, and we're going to Cornwall (from Oxford) on Tuesday, so seems like a good time to do it.

I've got the correct oil from the VW dealer ...

I fitted the front fogs myself in the end, I got the actual lights 2nd hand and the grills and fitting kit from Martyn at VAG parts. The whole kit from VAG parts comes to around £180. I managed to do it for £95 by getting the lights 2nd hand. I'd recomend looking round and seeing what you can get ...

Cool, I'll try it out, as I have a local BP. Tesco fuel is what I normally use 'cos it's cheap and I get points (and I'm broke).

I think that the 'Match' Special edition ran more than once. My car is also a 2001, but it doesn't have air con, instead has an electric sunroof. Also has the darker interior. Probably has the same bhp, though, just thought I'd add this in.
