Re: RCD 510 DAB

I have a RCD 510 with DAB. It's next to useless in built-up areas, tunnels, underground car parks - even under bridges it loses the signal. I usually find it has usually reverted to the same station on FM. The UK is almost alone in using DAB now. France uses a different system (DRM or some such) and...

Re: Seals around the door giving way at high speed !

FYI I have been in temps as low as -20C and had no problem with door seals.

The only problem at those temperatures is the cold air in the car which moves over you as you turn corners. Heated seats are heaven...

Re: Driving in the snow

This is my third Swiss winter with the Polo on snow tyres (of course). Last week I had to make a 50km journey that was white all the way there and back with hills etc. There was never a hint that the car would get stuck. I have only the factory 15mm lower suspension, and the biggest problem is front...

This doesn't answer the question, but adds some more info: my 1.4 16V is quick to warm up and get the heater running. Much quicker than my previous Golf 4 1.6...

Re: HAD TO CALL VW BREAKDOWN

AS long as you still enough battery, you're likely to get started. Sounds like the "old days"! Years ago before fuel injection, starting was often a problem either like this after a short journey, or even the opposite after a long run when the fuel evaporated near a hot engine. Or the engi...

Re: Anyone else had a mechatronics failure?

I had the mechatronics replaced free of charge after 25 months. Dealer said it was a known fault.

Re: 6R mpg talk & cluster speed accuracy

MPG figures are almost meaningless as they depend on so many factors. I have now made 5 long distance continental trips in my 1.5 16V and what comes out very clearly is what a difference speed makes - ignoring stop/start accelerating etc. but just sitting there with cruise control on. Autobahn belts...

Re: Ambient temperature sensor

Sorry I can't tell you where the sensor is, but I can say that mine appears fairly accurate having used it from +36°C down to -15°C.

However, on hot days it is distorted by hot tarmac pushing the temp up the +3° you mention...

Re: opinions on roof bars?

I have a pair of VW roof bars for the Polo. The owners manual shows where and how these should be fitted on the gutter - mine's a 4-door. I have them for carry a surf board. They are very noisy and anyone who drives round with them on when not needed to carry stuff must be deaf or have a fantastic i...
