The whole point of the exercise really is to remove the laquer which contributes massively to corrosion problem.

So yes, the outer lip you've just polished remains unlaquered.

Ahh excellent. Will give the insides a sanding down, some primer, grey metallic and lacquering tomorrow.

Insides came up a treat- looks almost as good as new

Centers powder coating had some problems, so they are being done again so are ready this afternoon. Tyres go on at 5PM today - I cant wait!!!

Ok so now my wheels are totally f*cked. The centers have had a reaction with the loctite thread sealant and have black marks on them.

I am so f'in p*ssed off now its unbeleivable.

What the hell should I do!?

I've never heard of that happening before! Typically the loctite doesn't really contact the centres, as the threaded part of the bolts just go straight into the rim.

Have you got some pics?

I know, but i caught the side of the center and its gone black. Ill get some pics. Autosol destroys it, autoglym destroys it.

Its almost as though the finish on the wheels is just complete and utter sh*t

Aswell as this, a bolt has snapped so ill have to get that drilled out somehow and replaced.

I may as well just throw them all in the bin thats how angry I am.

I guess all i can do is get the centers done all over again somewhere else.

Hmm, suppose it depends how bad the centres are really. Might just be able to touch them up with spray paint if you can find a colour that matches well enough. Worth trying before getting them powder coated again perhaps.

As for bolts snapping, yeah they are a nightmare! Local engineering firm should be able to help you out with that.

Ive just araldited the head back on so itll do im not bothered about that. Spray paint....would that work over powder coating?

Whats the colour of the centres?

They look awesome, good job with the polishing! Is very bizarre with reaction the loctite has had with the centres!

I'm still waiting for my centres to be powder coated! The first attempt they came out wrong and now i'm waiting for the back log of work to clear that the flooding caused in my area!

They are like a VW reflex silver. Its very bright to say the least

The wheels have all been split again, and my snapped bolt removed so things are looking up.

The centers go back in for powder coating on Monday to somewhere that actually knows what they are doing for a factory like authentic metallic finish that wont go black when its touched!!!

But yes, the result was amazing to just try out for an hour or however long I had them assembled - thank god the loctite didnt set!!!!!!!!!!!!

can't say I like it much either but thread lock is a glue and it the only thing I know that will take it off - solvents will soften the powdercoat or paint
