Polo 6n2 handling & sway bars

Hello,

I have Polo 6n2 with OEM 18mm front anti roll bar and NO rear anti roll bar. I have aftermarket sport suspension if it matters in this case (cca 25% stiffer than OEM, -30mm)

Would I get some improvment on handling if I change next :

1) changing OEM 18mm anti roll with OEM 22mm GTI anti roll bar

2) change rear axle, replace with OEM GTI axle which has integrated anti roll bar

Yes and yes

It'll stiffen the handling up and reduce roll a fair bit

I would be less certain on the answer.

It could, and as a change from 6N2 to GTi it should work well, but the springs are already stated to be 25% stiffer (all round or just front ?). The front anti roll bar increase in diameter represents a 50% increase in stiffness for that suspension component. The risk is that the car becomes too stiff and becomes undrivable on public roads or the balance front to rear goes out giving permanent understeer or oversteer.

The standard GTi handles well and is well balanced. One of mine has lowered / stiffer suspension (I haven't looked as to by how much). It certainly drives like a go kart, but there is a fair bit of pitching and general bumpiness in the ride. It is almost uncomfortable, but makes me think I am 30 years younger :)

I have Bilstein B12 Pro Kit 30/30 suspension. Eibach/Bilstein says that is cca 20-25% stiffer than OEM. Body roll is reduced to minumum in comparison with OEM. Btw. very comfy suspension. Tires are 15" 195/45

I have understeer when I pushing to/over limit. OK, my tires are Fulda Exelero, which is excellent rain tire and just good on dry road. Maybe change to Conti SC2 or Michelin PE2 ? Would be more grippier on dry ?

I had one short drive with 6n2 GTI, and it has better handling then mine 6n2. Looks stiffer and better feeling on steering wheel. But 6n2 GTI springs&shocks is comfier/softer than mine B12 ProKit. (GTI suspension 15% stiffer than regular 6n2)

btw. Is it possible to mount rear Eibach anti roll bar fom Golf MK3 to 6n2 axle? The same Eibach rear ARB parts are for MK2&MK3. I red somewhere that Golf MK2 rear ARB will fit with some DIY brackets.

I'm not sure I can help you too much more on specific modifications for your car as i haven't got the experience with modding a 6N2 (but quite a bit on suspension work on other cars).

From the sound of things, your current setup is maybe 10% stiffer than standard GTi, which should be OK for road use. Be careful going overstiff on the anti roll bars as that will likely cause lack of grip in wet conditions, meaning severe understeer or break away oversteer at the rear. (I remember getting rear oversteer on a standard 985cc Mk1 Polo many years ago) :)

Hi buddy,

I saw a post you did a while back asking about cutting bump stops on your Bilstein B12 Pro kit, that time i went for the H&R comfort kit.

Now i’m changing my suspension to the B12 Pro kit 30/30. I wanted to ask you if you had any photos of what yours looks like with that kit on it? Also what is the ride comfort like when going over uneven road?

The H&R comfort kit was 35/35 all round which will be coming off soon.

Thanks
