Accelerator cable slipping off pedal

Post by wdslatter »

Bit of a weird one, hope someone can help. Bought my polo a couple of years ago and had the accelerator cable slip off the top of the pedal a few times. Didn't have any tools with me so bad to call out RAC, who reckoned they fixed it. Took it for a service and mentioned it, they said it looked alright but could sort if I could source the part.

2 years go by and all is well, until last week where it happened again. This time was close to home so managed to get a look. Basically this rubber part on the top of the pedal is disintegrating, allowing the cable to just slip off. Great, I thought, went to the dealership to get the part number. They show me a diagram of the pedals, the top of which look completely different to mine and do not have the part I need. On their diagram the cable doesn't hook onto the pedal at all, but seems to go through some sort of hole at the end of the pedal. Long story short, anyone know where I can get one of these weird rubber things?
