Stubby earth issue

Post by jamegumb »

Hi, just bought a little stubby beesting aerial off ebay for my MK4, fits perfectly only radio reception is very poor, ( reception is brillant with stock aerial ) but if I touch the aerial reception is almost normal. Does anyone know how to earth it so I get good reception all the time? Thanks J

Do you need to pad out the thread with a couple of washers so it makes decent contact with the car body? other than that you could sand down the contact patch if it's corroded.

I don't wanna hijack, but I've got the same problem.

I experimented with different lengths of wire and stuff, and it helps, but the stubby is useless.

Also, my radio jumps in and out of the signal. Like, it plays, then stops for a split second and comes back in. It's not like loss of signal though, it happens when I'm stationary.
I've put the aerial booster on as well (cause I've got an aftermarket headunit).

A common problem?
