Fog light, reverse light, and thermostat housing

Post by alexperkins »

Well, the time for a daily arrived, so I got my hands on a 1.3 Genesis Mk3 Coupe - quite a nice little motor

However, it has a few problemos:

1 - the rear fog light worked last night, but since fitting the radio earlier, it no longer works. It illuminates with the sidelights, but theres no sign of life in it at all - i was thinking maybe a bad ground?

2 - The reverse light sometimes works, and other times it doesnt. it had a new switch back in 02, but im not too sure where abouts this is located, as im pretty sure it needs changing again. Can someone help me out on that?

3 - the thermostat housing appears to be leaking. Im guessing is probably due to the age, and brittleness - is this common?

Thankyou!

The reverse light switch on the 5 speed is on the front of the 'box, you haven't loosened the connector on the fog lamp switch when fitting the radio? An earth fault would usually show as a tail light flashing along with an indicator, I think you probably noticed that on escorts.

There also may be some corrosion on the lamp connectors and check the fuse connections for corrosion. I had a fault with the reverse lamp on the mk3 and it was the bulkhead connector that had some corrosion, as for your stat, there's an 'o' ring seal that may be causing the problem, no doubt you've consulted the parts manual!

Stat is fixed now. Reverse lights appears to be behaving. I think it was a loose connected

The fog light still stumps me though! I think the headlight switch is at fault, which would cut power to it.

Im having the radio out monday, as i have to install my handsfree, so hopefully that will suffice to an answer!
