Wiper pull design flaw?

Anyone else get this/know how to sort it - when I'm cleaning my windscreen as you'd expect i pull my wipers up out the way to clean under and around them but the drivers side catches on the bonnet. I didn't think it was that big of an issue as it stayed but but today I've noticed it's actually taken about an inch in length of paint off of the edge of my bonnet, now this is definitely a stupid design flaw. Am I doing something wrong or are other people experiencing this?

It's going in for service in 2 weeks and I'm tempted to make VW respray the bonnet - dont see why I should have to risk rusting because of their design flaw

There's something you need to do (behind the wheel i believe) first to move the wipers into 'service' position, which makes the wipers move and then stop mid-wipe, allowing you to lift them for cleaning or blade changing. A member who owns a 6r will tell you what exactly, in the meantime it will probably be in your manual. As for VW paying out for this I'm not sure they would since they'll just say the same thing :(

If you turn the key on, but stop before you put ignition on then turn off it should say check on speedo cluster... If you press your wiper stick down once it should stop half way on screen then you can lift it off.
Its abit hard to explain mate lol, let is know if you do it.

It hides the wipers from view I guess, it does make the 6r look sleeker :) A more cynical view: VW intentionally made it difficult for joe public to change the wipers so they'd take it into the dealership and have their pockets raided

they are jammy bastards! Last time I went they wanted to charge me £230 to replace a £40 ABS cable and cable tie it away from the strut, they literally told me they were just gonna cable tie it! Tried to get out of fixing my media unit to because I'd installed a sub but I argued the toss as they had it on file it was in for the same problem before and they hadn't fixed it properly, they're picking it up in 2 weeks to fix it and putting half a tank of petrol in since its now the 4th time for one issue 8)

It's called drag reduction. Wipers on windscreens are a massive contributer to drag, hence why they are hidden out of the major airflow onto the windscreen. My '99 mk4 golf had the service position on it, just makes things easier to remove the wiper blades if need be.

To put wipers to service position:
Put key in ignition.
Turn key to "ON"
Turn key to "OFF" but do not remove key.
Within 5 seconds of turning key to "OFF", flick wiper stalk DOWN as if doing the teardrop wipe.

To return wipers to park:
Put key in ignition.
Turn key to "ON"

They do it on a lot of cars, it makes a lot of sense for the reasons already stated.

thats was an unpleasant surprise for me as well tbh
Another thing that i am experiencing atm is left wiper hitting left stand (?) when it moves to the left. And judging by the sound its hitting it kind of hard. Really annoying boom-boom-boom... Is this normal? think it could use some tuning.
